Arrival | Ex-Stoke and Blackpool midfielder Waddington joins on loan
Friday, 3 January 2020
Blyth Spartans are pleased to announce the loan signing of midfielder Mark Waddington from Barrow until the end of the season.
Waddington moves to Croft Park having worked under Spartans manager Lee Clark on two separate occasions at Blackpool and Kilmarnock.
The 23-year-old came through the youth ranks at the League One side and made his senior debut aged just 17 during a Carabao Cup tie with Shrewsbury Town in 2014.
Waddington went on to make an additional four first-team appearances before his progress was halted due to a broken foot in February 2015.
However, Waddington showed enough promise in that time to earn a move to then-Premier League side Stoke City but unfortunately failed to break into the senior picture.
During his four years at the Bet 365 Stadium, Waddington had two loan spells in Scotland with Killie and Falkirk.
At the end of last season, Waddington was released by Stoke City and was quickly snapped up by National League league leaders Barrow.
Now, Waddington will reunite with Clark for a third time and help strengthen the club's position in the National League North table.
He is available for selection ahead of Saturday's trip to Kidderminster Harriers.
