Lucas Reed becomes Blyth’s third summer signing

Blyth Spartans are delighted to announce their third signing of the summer of Lucas Reed following the expiration of his contract at Manchester 62.

Reed has been playing in Gibraltar for the last 18 months for the seven-time Gibraltar Football League Champions and has registered three goals and six assists in 24 matches.

The 21-year-old Scotsman is a product of the Middlesbrough academy, featuring for their under-18 and under-21 squads.

The midfielder was featured 29 times for the under-18s before playing just once in the Premier League 2 for Middlesborough before suffering an injury that would keep Reed out of football for eight months.

Moving to Gibraltar in January 2023 allowed Lucas to transition back into football and regain his enjoyment of the sport.

In his career, he has played in central midfield, across the entire defensive line and has made a handful of appearances at left midfield.

On joining Blyth, Reed said: “I’m really looking forward to it and I can’t wait to get started.

“I’ve spoken to the gaffer [Nobby Solano] and Steve [Howard] about the ambitions of the club, where they want to be, how they want to get back into the National League North.

“So yeah, I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve spoken to a couple of the lads who play here and they’ve said it’s a really big club and I can’t wait to get started and show everyone what I can do.”

Following the signing of Lucas Reed, Director of Football, Steve Howard said: “Lucas is a player we have been trying to get for some time, so I’m really pleased I got his signature.

“He is a young talented footballer who has a lot of ability.

“Lucas is another fantastic addition to the squad who will excel at this level and no doubt he’ll draw a lot of attention because of his quality.”

Welcome to Blyth, Lucas!
