Blyth Spartans v Hyde United | Saturday, 30 November 2024 - 15:00 | League
Ten-man Spartans suffered a narrow loss to Hyde United on Saturday afternoon at Croft Park as Connor Pani was shown a straight red card in the 20th minute.
Pani was shown a straight red card by referee Neil Templey early in the first half leaving Spartans a man down for 70 minutes.
The visitors broke the deadlock in the 50th minute through Jack Redshaw, after missing a host of chances in the first half.
Spartans manager Michael Connor made one change to the side that drew against Bamber Bridge on Tuesday night with Ben Milburn replacing Greg Halford in the starting line-up.
The first chance of the game when Callum Spooner had an effort from the edge of the area for the visitors, but his 10th minute strike was straight at Adam Richardson.
The landscape of the game then changed in the 20th minute when Connor Pani was shown a straight red card for a foul on the edge of the box after he had conceded possession of the ball.
Moments later Ben Kershaw pulled up with a hamstring injury for Hyde and was subsequently subbed off.
Ewan Bange then missed from point blank range for the visitors before Spartans cleared the ball following a goalmouth scramble.
Hyde broke through on goal 38 minutes in, but Richardson got down well to his right to deny them the lead.
A minute later Hyde captain Jack Redshaw then struck the underside of the bar from 25 yards out.
Richardson then denied Bange once again in first half stoppage time, on this occasion from inside the six-yard box.
Half time: Blyth Spartans 0-0 Hyde United
Redshaw gave Hyde the lead in the 50th minute after some good link-up play on the left before a knockdown found Redshaw inside the area, the Hyde captain then made no mistake with the finish.
Spartans made a double change in the 62nd minute with both Mitch Curry and Ryan Donaldson coming on. Curry was involved immediately, striking the post following a cross from the left.
Redshaw then had a chance to double his tally in the 66th minute but was denied at the back post by Richardson.
Bange was shown a yellow card in the 74th minute, when it easily could have been a red with the Hyde striker going in late for a challenge with his studs up.
Fearnley should have made it two to the visitors with 15 minutes remaining, but he prodded his attempt wide when he was through on goal after he dispossessed Ben Milburn on the halfway line.
Spartans continued to look for an equaliser and should have had one in the 87th minute when Daniel Myers' cross from the left was met by Curry a couple of yards out, but the substitute couldn't convert.
Connor Heath tried to profit from a slip by Ben Fell on the edge of his own box, but Richardson denied him when one-on-one.
