Blyth Spartans v Matlock Town | Saturday, 16 November 2024 - 15:00 | League
Blyth Spartans are set for their first home game under new ownership and management as we host Matlock Town on Saturday afternoon.
Michael Connor took charge of his first game last Saturday in a narrow 2-1 defeat away to Warrington Rylands as a controversial penalty sealed the home side's win.
A new bottle bar has been installed, named after legendary striker Scott Bell, Bell's Bottle Bar will offer a wide variety of lagers, ciders and other alcoholic drinks - as well as hot drinks and snacks, before and throughout the game. This will be located where our old food hatch was located, next to the club shop.
There will also be a foodbank collection occurring before the match on Saturday in the clubhouse as well as a Race Night which will be hosted by the Green Army as they continue to raise money for the Floodlight Fund. Donate to the Floodlight Fund.

What We're Saying
Following his first game in charge, Michael Connor said:
The effort and desire was just superb. I've just thanked the players there for that. When you look at the first half, the goal we conceded was we switched off from a corner, but after that, I think everybody saw it, they saw what we were about. With the short, sharp passing around the box, the keeper has made a brilliant save, we've had two off the line, we've hit the bar and you just think it's not going to be our day and then we start the second half and get the equaliser and then you just think if we push on from this. I don't like to comment on officiating at all, but when their team is actually saying it's not a penalty and the referee has went and given it.
Opposition
The Gladiators currently sit 19th in the league standings with 17 points, having won four of their 18 league matches. Most recently they defeated Bamber Bridge, 3-2, with 10 men when Rogan Ravenhill was sent off after 30 minutes. Remaye Campbell, Josh Granite and Montel Gibson scored for Ryan Creswell's side.
Last Time We Met
The sides last met during our title-winning campaign in 2017 as the Spartans won 4-1 at Croft Park with Luke Armstrong, Robbie Dale, Jarrett Rivers and Dan Maguire all scoring on the day.
The Spartans have won three of the last five meetings between the sides in both the NPL Premier Division and Isuzu FA Trophy.
