Just not good enough - Nicholson

Tuesday, 19 August 2014

Spartans right back Alex Nicholson was honest in his assessment of his side's comprehensive defeat at Ashton United admitting they "just weren't good enough". Two own goals - one by Nicholson and the other by Ian Watson - and a goal from Robins striker Richard Bennett condemned Spartans to their first defeat of the season and the former Newcastle United academy man admitted the hosts game plan worked to perfection.

"From the first minute they knew what they were doing. They hit our weak spots and fair play to them for doing that but we just weren't good enough. They were three sloppy goals, the two own goals were annoying but we have to get it out of of system"

Spartans have another away fixture coming up on Saturday at Matlock Town as they look and Nicholson urged his team mates to use the fixture against Mark Atkins side to put the poor show against the Robins behind them.

"It's early in the season and this performance shouldn't happen again. We have to look to Matlock on Saturday and ensure we improve on everything that went wrong tonight"
