Texo is delighted to have provided the catalyst in bringing the two football clubs and its sponsors to a match billed the Texo Challenge Trophy - Blyth Spartans v Aberdeen FC.

An AFC Development squad will travel to Northumberland on July 28 to play Blyth Spartans in honour of our main sponsors.

Currently, in the National League North, Blyth Spartans are managed by former Newcastle United and Sunderland midfielder Lee Clark who was appointed as their boss this summer.

Aberdeen recently announced that they are to pull out of the SPFL Reserve League and as part of their programme for 2019-20, will look to play friendly games against sides throughout the UK.

Aberdeen Development Coach Paul Sheerin commented "The English friendly games will be very beneficial to us, it will give the players a different outlook. It will be a great test for the boys and good preparation for our Challenge Cup campaign."

Kevin Scott, Vice Chairman, Blyth Spartans added: "We are really looking forward to this game and thank Texo for making it happen, I believe it will be the first time that we have played Aberdeen.

"I vividly recall Aberdeen sending some match tickets and merchandise to auction when we were struggling to stay in existence in 2000, it will be a great opportunity to repay the Dons with a warm Spartans welcome to our club and or supporters".

John Wood, Chief Operating Officer of Texo Group said ''We are proud to have been a key sponsor of Aberdeen FC for the last two seasons and with our recently formed partnership with Blyth Spartans, it seemed a natural fit to launch the Texo Challenge Trophy.

"Both Blyth Spartans and Aberdeen FC are community-focused football teams, which was a key reason for Texo's involvement and we would encourage local football fans to join us at Croft Park for what should be an exciting afternoon of football.''
