Callum’s Wish to Walk Day tomorrow at Croft Park
Friday, 24 August 2012
Blyth Spartans are delighted to announce that when we welcome Hednesford Town tomorrow we will also be holding a day of fundraising for local lad Callum Brown. Eight year old Callum lives in Seaton Sluice and suffers from Cerebral Palsy and is in the process of trying to raise £50,000 to allow him to have an operation in St Louis, USA which will enable him to walk for the first time in his life. The £50,000 target has now been hit but fundraising is ongoing to allow Callum to recieve specialist rehabilitation once he has had the operation which should take place in Spring 2013 in St Louis, USA.
On the day there will be various bucket collections on the turnstiles and in the social club post-match for Callum and the man himself will be mascot for Spartans and lead out the side in the first Saturday fixture at Croft Park this season. Blyth Spartans are delighted to be adding our name to the list of people that are supporting Callum and would encourage all of our supporters to help us support him and of course the team at the game as Spartans try to build on the impressive 5-0 win over Stocksbridge Park Steels on Tuesday night.
Spartans General Manager Ian Evans said "" I knew of Callum, and "Callum's Wish to Walk", as he is in the same class at school as my grandaughter. When the club were asked to help out, there was no hesitation, I hope our supporters give generously on the day and that Callum enjoys his day out at Croft Park"
Callum's mother Sharon said "We have been overwhelmed with the support we have recieved for Callum so far and we have just hit our target to get the operation but we need to keep the fundraising going to get Callum the rehab he will need after the operation. Without the rehab Callum would not be able to achieve his wish to be able to walk independently. Spartans are our local team and Callum has always wanted to come to a match and is footy daft he already asked if he can wear his boots to walk on his frame to lead the team out to hopefully another great win"
