Announcement | Spartans launch National League Youth Alliance side with TyneMet College
Tuesday, 28 May 2019
Blyth Spartans are pleased to announce they have entered into a partnership with Tynemet College to field a team in the National League Youth Alliance for season 2019-20.
The league is an U19 national competition consisting of 120 teams, split into 10 regional divisions. The Spartans youngsters will compete in the north east division consisting of 12 teams, including, York City, Hartlepool United, South Shields and Scarborough Athletic. Matches are played on Wednesday afternoons.
The Club is in the process of creating a football development pathway which will allow youngsters to develop their skills, from junior soccer, through youth football, to adulthood, with the ultimate aim being a place in the first team squad.
Many talented local youngsters lose their way once they are too old for the junior leagues. The Club's development pathway will provide an opportunity for them to continue their football careers with the aim of producing players who can make an impact in the first team creating a platform for further progression.
The partnership with Tynemet College provides an excellent opportunity for youngsters to undertake a range of academic or vocational, courses designed to prepare them for later life and careers away from football.
"We are delighted to be able to offer footballers the opportunity to test their abilities in the National League Youth Alliance for 2019-20. This opportunity is an excellent addition to an already strong football pathway which is in place at the college and this opportunity will help build on the successes of our Men's Football programme from the 2018-19 season which culminated in the learners securing 3 pieces of silverware and performing well locally and nationally. We are strong believers in developing dual career athletes, providing learners with opportunities to develop both their academic and employability skills along with their footballing abilities in order to help them progress once they leave the college."
Jonathan Rees, Head of Sport, Tynemet College.
