Arrival | Blackett signs on loan from Gateshead

Wednesday, 9 September 2020

Blyth Spartans AFC is pleased to announce Paul Blackett has joined on a season-long loan from National League North rivals Gateshead.

A former Newcastle United scholar, Blackett, 22, joined The Heed last summer having previously played for Heaton Stan and Newcastle Benfield in the Northern League.

Having struck four goals for Gateshead - including a hat-trick against Consett in the Durham Challenge Cup - Blackett was loaned to Whitby Town.

In 11 appearances for the Northern Premier side, the striker hit an impressive 10 goals before the season came to an early end due to the coronavirus outbreak.

His form saw him rewarded with a new deal at the International Stadium and was included in their play-off squad - scoring a penalty in the shootout win at Brackley Town.

Now, Blackett is relishing the challenge in National League North and is looking forward to reuniting with Spartans boss Michael Nelson.

Blackett said: "To get game time is important for me this year. The relationship I had with Nelse at Gateshead was good. We had a good chat on Sunday and that made my mind up."

Nelson added: "We did a few one-on-one sessions at Gateshead and when he got his chances, he got goals. He is someone that can work well with Panos up top."
