Arrival | Cunningham re-joins for third loan spell
Monday, 5 October 2020
Blyth Spartans AFC is delighted to announce Aaron Cunningham has returned to Croft Park on a season-long loan from Hartlepool United, subject to FA and National League clearance.
Cunningham, 22, was due to spend the remainder of last season on loan at Blyth but his spell was cut short after three games following the Covid-19 outbreak.
However, the 22-year-old has sealed an immediate move back to Northumberland and should join Michael Nelson's squad ahead of Tuesday's National League North opener at Guiseley.
In total, Cunningham has made 20 appearances for Blyth and scored two having previously been on loan at the club during the 2018/19 campaign.
The defender is already a popular figure among the Blyth faithful, so the news of his return will be extremely welcomed by supporters.
Michael Nelson, manager of Blyth Spartans said: "I'm really happy. It's one we've been looking at for a while.
"I've been speaking to Hartlepool about him and we've had to wait for them to bring players in so Aaron could be loaned out.
"When we thought we did have it all agreed, there was a little bit of a stumbling block for one reason or another - a couple of other clubs came in and tried to sign him.
"To be fair to Hartlepool, we have to give them credit. They stuck to their word and we've managed to get it over the line today when it looked like it was going to be dead in the water."
