Arrival | Ex-Newcastle man signs for Spartans
Friday, 4 September 2020
Blyth Spartans AFC is pleased to announce the signing of former Newcastle United goalkeeper Brendan Pearson.
Pearson, 23, has been training with Spartans for the last two months and has appeared in all three of the club's pre-season fixtures so far - impressing manager Michael Nelson.
Having been a part of Newcastle's academy, Pearson signed his first professional contract with the Magpies in 2016 - which included a loan spell at Gateshead.
He was released in May 2018 following an ongoing battle with patella tendonitis, and briefly joined South Shields a few months later.
A move back into full-time football with Scottish club Greenock Morton followed in February 2019 but his stay was limited to just seven months after further bad luck with injuries.
Pearson took a year out on football to become a personal trainer - which he believes has helped him to be in the best shape he has been for years.
His performances in pre-season - including some standout saves - has given Nelson no choice but to hand Pearson a permanent place at Croft Park.
We'll hear more from Pearson and his thoughts on joining Spartans over the coming days.
