Arrival | Ex-Pools man Hawkins joins Blyth
Saturday, 31 August 2019
Blyth Spartans are pleased to announce the signing of former Hartlepool United midfielder Lewis Hawkins.
The 26-year-old, from Middlesbrough, becomes the second player in as many days to join Lee Clark's side after Callum Roberts, formerly of Newcastle United, arrived on Friday morning.
Following a loan spell with Whitby Town, Hawkins made his Pools debut in 2011 during a 0-0 draw at Walsall when the club was in League One, although took a few years to establish himself as a first-team regular.
Indeed, Hawkins was an unused sub as Spartans recorded a shock 2-1 FA Cup second round win at Victoria Park in December 2014.
On March 5, 2016, Hawkins scored his first and only goals for Pools in a 3-1 win at Barnet in League Two - finding the net twice at the Beehive.
For the next two seasons, Hawkins was a usual name on the team sheet, however was unable to prevent Pools from slipping out of the EFL after playing 34 times in the 2016/17 campaign.
He made 35 outings in Pools' opening season in non-league but spent the majority of last season at Blyth's National League North rivals York City and Spennymoor Town on loan.
Hawkins was the man who dispatched the winning penalty at Brackley to send the Moors to the play-off final, though were denied a place in the National League by Chorley.
He will be unavailable for today's trip to Leamington the club could not register him in time. An away trip to Darlington on Wednesday could see Hawkins make his Spartans bow.
