Blyth Spartans are pleased to announce Kris Thackray has joined on a one-month loan deal from Morpeth Town.

Thackray, a defender, arrives on a short-term deal at Croft Park and has bags of experience having plied his trade in three different countries.

He started out at Newcastle United before being released at 16. Instead of remaining in England, Thackray opted for a move abroad - signing for Serie A side Reggina.

His time at Reggina saw him loaned to Monopoli, where he impressively won the club's player of the year award in 2009.

After four years in Italy, Thackray moved to Malta before moving to Germany and back to Malta within a six-year period.

The former KFC Uerdingen man returned to his native North East last year and turned out for Spartans' National League North rivals Spennymoor Town.

He joined the Highwaymen in the summer, however now makes the brief move across Northumberland to bolster Lee Clark's squad during a busy festive period.

The defender could make his debut on Saturday when Blyth travel to Stockport County in the first round of the FA Trophy.
