Arrivals | Spartans sign Chesterfield duo on loan

Saturday, 2 January 2021

Blyth Spartans AFC is pleased to announce the loan signings of Jamie Sharman and Jack McKay from National League side Chesterfield.

Sharman, a central defender, joins for the remainder of the season having previously spent time on loan at Kidderminster Harriers during 2019/20.

The 19-year-old progressed through The Spireites' academy and signed his first professional contract during the 2018/19 season after winning the Academy Player of the Year award.

Sharman was described as someone who has a "big future" by former Chesterfield manager John Pemberton. He has made six appearances in the National League this campaign.

McKay, a striker, joins on an initial one-month loan.

The 24-year-old started out at Doncaster Rovers and went on to make four first-team appearances before joining Leeds United, which included a brief loan spell at Scottish club Airdrieonians.

He was then snapped up by Cardiff City but was then sent on loan to Chesterfield before putting pen to paper on a permanent deal at the Technique Stadium in 2019.

McKay has featured 19 times for The Spireites, scoring twice.

Michael Nelson, manager of Blyth Spartans said: "Jamie is a young lad who broke into the team when I was a player at Chesterfield.

"He's played games in the National League and for Kiddermimster, so he knows both leagues.

"He's big and strong. Hopefully, he is someone who can come in, provide competition and help us."

He added: "Jack is somebody who is hungry to play games. He's played games at a higher level and got a goal in him.

"He can play anywhere across the front three, so he gives us options in the attacking areas.

"He's also an extremely fit lad. He'll add a little bit of physicality and pace into the team."

Both players are available to face Alfreton Town in our next National League North fixture on Saturday, January 9th.
