Blyth Bag Brittain
Thursday, 20 September 2012
Blyth Spartans can announce the signing of right-sided midfielder Martin Brittain.
The Cramlington-based 27-year-old started his career at Newcastle United, where he featured in the first team a total of 8 times. He has since gone on to play for Ipswich Town, Yeovil Town, Carlisle United, Walsall, Kidderminster Harriers and Gateshead.
He was released by Gateshead at the end of last season and looked to be moving to Northern League side Celtic Nation before the deal was cancelled, without Brittain featuring for the Cumbrians in a competitive game.
Brittain, who has been training with the club for the last few sessions and was also present at Tuesday night's match with Chorley, is not cup-tied and will therefore be eligible to play in Saturday's FA Cup tie with Workington.
Manager Tommy Cassidy commented "Martin brings a bit of experience to the side and the midfield in particular, he has played at a higher level and has a good pedigree. He hasn't played much football this season, but he is a good player and has looked sharp in training, so we'll see how he does."
Welcome to the club Martin!
