Blyth Spartans re-sign Sam Grieveson

Friday, 6 August 2010

On a busy day for signings Blyth Spartans can announce the re-signing of talented young goalkeeper

Sam Grieveson

.

The 18 year old was initially signed, last season by Mick Tait, as cover the senior duo of Mark Bell and Jack Norton, but the youngster never made a first team appearance despite being named on the bench for the Northumberland Senior Cup clash with Ashinton.

A junior at Newcastle United, where he was coached by former Spartans Adam Sadler and Adam Bartlett, he was also 'on the books' at Norwich City. Upon leaving the Carrow Road outfit he signed for the Spartans, where he was a regular at first team training and his performances convinced manager Mick Tait to give him a more senior role in the squad for this season.

Grieveson gave the manager additional food for thought with a highly impressive performance against Hamilton Academical, where he showed confident and assured handling and excellent distribution to ensure that the Spartans goal remained untouched against the Scottish Premier League side.
