TEAM NEWS
With a season to remember for Blyth Spartans, focusing on the cup competition, the last remaining tournament remaining is the Northumberland Senior Cup. Last season saw Spartans get to the St James' Park finale but fell at the last hurdle against a battling Newcastle United Reserve side. They have another opportunity this season, but first a semi final with Whitley Bay is to be won. The last time Spartans faced Whitley Bay in the Senior Cup, the Seahorses won a semi final replay 2-0 at Hillheads back in 2011. Blyth will be looking to complete the business on the first attempt tonight.
On Saturday in the league, Spartans came from 2-0 at half time, away to play off chasing Buxton to win 3-2 with Steven Turnbull getting the comeback started, followed by a Dan Maguire brace. Whitley Bay are playing on the back of a 3-0 defeat to Billingham Synthonia. The Buxton fixture saw a return to the team for Matthew Wade, he will be hoping he can keep his place ahead of the likes of Neal Hooks and Michael Richardson, how started from the bench. A flu kept out Stephen Turnbull so he could return to the selection list for Tom Wade as his side chase for a cup final spot against current holders Newcastle United's Reserves or Morpeth Town.
