Buchanan wanted result over goal glory
Sunday, 25 November 2012
Spartans skipper Wayne Buchanan reflected on his first goal of the season in the 1-1 draw with Nantwich Town and insisted that he was focused on being disappointed not to get the win rather than his own achievements. Buchanan forced home a cross from Spartans new boy Marcus Maddison just after the half hour mark but felt that his side should have been able to hang on for all three points. He said "It's not the result we wanted you know, they knocked the ball around well and kept possession really well. It was a good game and they have caused us problems but once we got to grips with the game we took the lead and should have held on. We weren't great at times but we hung in and dug in well. We did come on strong at the end but just couldn't force the winner."
Buchanan praised Newcastle United loanee Maddison who provided the cross for the Spartans skipper's goal and feels the Durham born youngster could be a valuable asset for the club during his temporary stay at Croft Park. He said "Marcus has come in today and he really does look a threat doesn't he?. He's got loads of skill and he knows he has got things to learn. Sometimes maybe he can pass a bit quicker but it's all part of his education and hopefully we can play a part in that. He will be learning that at Newcastle United but hopefully he can be a big player for us over the next month or so.".
As his side prepared for a tough week with the trip to AFC Fylde and the visit of FC United of Manchester Buchanan was keen to stress that whilst they are hard games, in reality any game in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League is a tough one. Buchanan said "They are tough games and no there's no doubt about that really. The thing is and it may be a cliche but in this league they're all tough games. I know a bit about AFC Fylde because there's a lad I've played with and they're a very good side and a very strong side. FC United will bring a crowd here and it'll be good for our youngsters to experience that. The big games are coming thick and fast and that's only going to aid our progression as a team under Paddy and Tom."
