Chairman Explains Cuggy Appointment

Blyth Spartans' Chairman Tony Platten has explained the procedure in procuring the services of new manager Steve Cuggy, but also took the time out to thank the departing Spartans boss, Mick Tait.

"The Executive Committee has a duty to ensure that all decisions it makes are in the best long term interests of the Club.

The Committee has had a largely stable structure since it took over the running of the Club in 2001 and the Club has been transformed both on and off the pitch as a result of continuous development.

Blyth Spartans is widely recognized as one of the best-managed football Clubs in the Blue Square Conference North league.

The committee would not be doing it's job correctly if it did not explore all opportunities that arise and that might benefit the Club.

When the committee became aware that Steve Cuggy and Gavin Fell had expressed an interest in moving to a Club at a higher level, and were not under contract, contact with them was established. Detailed discussions were entered into on a confidential basis and comments were fed back to other Committee members.

After further discussions the Committee unanimously agreed that the combined skills and knowledge that Steve Cuggy and Gavin Fell would bring to the Club could benefit the long-term future of the Club.

Following further discussions Steve Cuggy and Gavin Fell were offered and accepted the position of Manager and Assistant Manager and contracts were signed on Tuesday 24th May.

The Club would like to thank Mick Tait, whose two year contract expired at the beginning of May, for his work with the Club and wish him well in the future."
