Cup run like a dream for Spartans man Hawkins
Wednesday, 31 December 2014
If this season's FA Cup run has been a dream for Blyth Spartans supporters then midfielder Daniel Hawkins wants to assure the Green Army that his team mates are experiencing exactly the same emotions. Hawkins joined Spartans during the summer from Bishop Auckland and has become a useful weapon for manager Tom Wade with his ability to play in a number of positions. Ahead of the Third Round tie with Birmingham City the former Middlesbrough academy man explained that the run to the third round is beyond his wildest dreams.
"It has been a great season so far and hopefully it will continue to be that way. I never expected to be playing in the FA Cup as I have never played in it before. I use to just watch the Cup on TV and never could have imagined that I would be playing in the first round never mind the third round"
It has been a relatively successful debut season at Croft Park for Hawkins. His all action style has seen him become a popular addition to the squad and he has put in several notable performances. For the man himself the FA Cup Second Round win stands out and he believes that it will take the same attitude from his side if they are to pull off one of the biggest shocks in the club's prestigious history in the competition.
"Hartlepool has to be the most memorable part of the season so far. Being part of a team that turned around a 1-0 deficit and win the game was amazing. No one could believe what we have achieved but as Saturday is approaching quickly I am sure it will be the biggest game of my life and I hope I can help the team in any way and who knows, may be in the hat for the 4th round.
We have to go into the match believing we can win. It is our home ground and we don't let anyone turn up and just walk over us. We all will be fighting through the whole game and each and everyone of us will give our best"
