Deals have to be right for us - Wade
Saturday, 23 May 2015
Blyth Spartans manager Tom Wade cut a positive figure after a week that saw the vast majority of his squad commit to the club for the new season.
And now he turns his attentions to bringing in some new faces to compliment what he already has.
However, as he warns, he will only complete a deal with a player if it is right for the club and he is sure that the player's intentions are the same as his own.
"We are working hard and we will bring new faces in but it has to be right for us. We don't want players only interested in money, we want players who share our ambition and who want to play for Blyth Spartans.
We won't rush in to anything but we are pushing forward in that sense and have a number of things going on right now"
Wade admitted that negotiations were ongoing with four players, two goalkeepers and two forwards, positions he feels must be priorities, with the Spartans boss hopeful of some answers next week.
"Obviously we have lost three players and there is the Dan Maguire situation but whatever happens we need a keeper and a striker, they are out priorities.
We are in talks with two goalkeepers, two very highly rated goalkeepers, and two forwards who would improve us and we would only sign players if we feel they are going to improve us. We are hopeful of getting one or two answers, hopefully positive ones too, within the next week or so"
However, the Spartans manager did admit that the potential move of his top scorer to FC Halifax Town did need resolving.
"We need to talk to Dan and we need to resolve this. I don't want it lingering on and it needs resolved quickly, we need to look after the club's interest first and foremost"
Wade also revealed that his is not limiting himself to players at both ends of the pitch, with a number of trialists expected to train with the club in pre-season.
"A keeper and striker is the priority but not the be all and end all. We know we need players elsewhere and we are still working on that. We have a lot of interest from players and we are ahead of the game.
We haven't been in that position for a while, normally we need seven or eight players at this time but we don't need that. We will have a few trialists in pre-season and we will take our time looking at them, we won't rush into bringing a player in for the sake of it"
