Double charity collection at Darlo
Monday, 11 November 2013
Spartans make an all too rare short trip to Darlington 1883 on Wednesday night as we open our Doodson Sports Cup campaign for the season. We have received notice that the Darlington Fans Fundraising Group are to hold a bucket collection before, during and after the match to raise funds for two very worthy causes.
Firstly they will be raising money for St Teresa's hospice, a local hospice that helps anyone with a life limiting illness that is not responding to curative treatment.
The second charity is a one that is very special to Spartans fans, the Scott Bell Fund. Spartans Manager Tom Wade commented "This is a wonderful gesture from the Darlo fans and everyone at Spartans is extremely grateful for what they're doing. We all know just how special Scott Bell was to the Green Army so for another club to help us fundraise for his fantastic charity is great to see. We would urge anyone going to the game, whether they are Spartans or Darlington fans to give generously"
Dave Mills, the fans and community lisason for the Darlington Fans Fundraising Group said "As this is the first meeting of the two clubs in a long time we felt it was right to make a gesture of solidarity. We have two special clubs who have been renowned for their work in the community and its only right that we ensure that each club is seen as donating to charities close to their hearts. Wednesday will be a great night both on and off the pitch"
