Ed Waugh: 21 Years in Showbiz! @ Blyth Library

Wednesday, 13 September 2023

Playwright Ed Waugh, whose work includes the self-penned national hits Wor Bella, Carrying David and Hadaway Harry as well as the co-written international hits Dirty Dusting and Waiting For Gateaux, will be talking about his two decades in the theatre world at Blyth Library on Monday 9th October at 6pm.

The talk entitled "21 Years in Show Business" will deal with some of the many adventures Ed has experienced with his national and international hit plays in the UK, New Zealand and Ireland.

With more than 21 professional full-play credits to his name, the Northumberland-born writer has also penned many sketches for Sunday for Sammy, Christmas at the Cathedral and The Laffalang. His co-written film script The Liquidator won the Gotham Screen International Film Festival award for Best Comedy Screenplay in 2010 in New York and was also shortlisted for the Best Screenplay award.

Ed, who self-penned The Great Joe Wilson and Mr. Corvan's Music Hall, which both sold out at Sage Gateshead on their regional tours, will be entertaining people at the special event during National Libraries Week.

Ed's latest play Wor Bella - about the Blyth Spartans Ladies Cup winners in WW1 - which premiered to high acclaim at Blyth Phoenix Theatre in April 2022, will transfer to London and the prestigious 1200-seat Newcastle Theatre Royal in April 2024.

The large banners used in Wor Bella were presented to Blyth Library and now hang in the Children's section.

Ed's talk "21 Years in Show Business" will take place on Monday 9th October, at Blyth Library in Bridge Street (NE24 1DJ), at 6pm. Tickets cost only £3 from Blyth Library or online here.
