Farrell wants more consistency from Spartans

Spartans top scorer Craig Farrell demanded more consistency from his side after another patchy show against Rushall Olympic meant that his late penalty was required to take a point from the Midlanders. Farrell's spot kick was his eight goal of the season but it was a low key first half that was at the front of the former Carlisle United forward's mind and he insisted that if the team are to kick on they have to put in ninety minute performances. He said "Again like we always say the second half performance was much better than the first, if we put in ninety minutes like we did in the second half we will be ok this season but over the whole game I think the scoreline was just about even. We do it every game and we are such a better team when we play in the opposition's half, we just don't do it enough."
With both sides seemingly low on confidence after recent runs it was a rather uninspiring game low on quality but Farrell feels Spartans will start to improve as their injured players return to the pitch. "We haven't won in a while now and we know that but we will improve. We had Robbie(Dale) back today and Lee Mason was back on the bench and got on today. We had Ryan McGorrigan making his debut today and he has done very well for a young lad. He has looked very sharp in training and with some games under his belt he could be a real asset for us".
It has been said that Spartans recent injuries have given some of the younger members of the squad a chance and recent signing Darryll Donnelly is one example of that. The former Whitley Bay man did in fact get the Sponsors Man of the Match award today and Farrell was quick to pay tribute to the centre back. He commented "We are struggling and we have lost two of our key centre halves and Darryll has come in and done very well for us. He took a few knocks today and was up against two physical strikers but he has done well and got through the pain.".
