First goal delight for “pleased” Cummings

Wednesday, 6 November 2013

Young midfielder Ryan Cummings will certainly remember remember the Fifth of November as he netted his first competitive goal for Spartans to set the seal on a comfortable win over basement club Droylsden. The former Bishop Auckland man got on the end of a Robbie Dale pull back to claim his maiden strike in the green and white and revealed his delight at getting off the mark.

"I'm pleased to get it out of the way to be honest. The longer you go without a goal when you come to a club the more it plays on your mind. Hopefully it'll be the first of many more. As it came to me I just had to get my head over it and make a clean connection"

Far from taking the plaudits though Cummings was keen to focus on the team and wants to see his side kick on after the win over the Bloods. Spartans have won four of the last six games and sit in fourth in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League table, a position even the staunchest Green Army member couldn't have predicted in pre-season.

"The points are the important thing. The lads put in a good performance and put Saturday's disappointment behind us. We can forget about that and start to kick on again. It's been a good season so far and hopefully we can make it even better and get more wins under our belts"
