Match Report & Reaction | Spartans 7-1 Franco-Portuguese XI
Wednesday, 13 July 2016
Blyth comfortably beat a Franco-Portuguese side 7-1 at Croft Park on Tuesday evening.
Goals via a Wilson Kneeshaw first half hat-trick, Zak Atkinson, Michael Richardson and two from Luke Armstrong sealed a strong Spartans performance.
The visitors a grabbed a consolation goal late in the second half.
Manager Tom Wade commented: "To be honest I thought we were going to be up against following the first few minutes and I was expecting it to be tough with a Tuesday game following a Saturday game at this stage of the season but once we got the ball down we looked an exceptionally talented side.
"Going forward we were very very strong and, other than finding a holding midfield player, I think we have all bases covered."
Tom said of strikers Zak Atkinson and Luke Armstrong: "They both did really well. Luke looked stronger than at the weekend while Zak looked strong and pacey. Both lads are only 20 and we'll see how they get on in the next few games. Both are ambitious and that's what we like to hear."
Tom will miss the next two games as he is on holiday and assistant John Cornforth will be in charge.
