Fundraiser | Blyth Spartans launch Future Fund
Saturday, 20 June 2020
Blyth Spartans AFC and The Supporters Club have launched a Future Fund in light of the unprecedented times surrounding the impact of Covid-19.
The Executive Committee is doing everything they can to ensure the survival of the club and support manager Michael Nelson in his efforts to build a squad for the new National League North season.
But like a number of non-league clubs across the country, uncertainty still lingers and we want to explore alternative platforms to ensure the future of our famous old club.
We have been overwhelmed by the volume of supporters getting in touch to ask how they can help. This initiative is the opportunity to do just that.
As former FA Secretary Ted Croker once said: "Blyth Spartans must be the most famous non-league football team in the world."
That is why the club and the Blyth Spartans Supporters Club have teamed up to launch a GoFundMe Page - Blyth Spartans Future Fund.
Your donations will go towards Michael's playing budget for next season.
Chairman of the Supporters Club, Simon Dunn said: "We recognise these are challenging and uncertain times for our football club.
"Every little helps, whether that be £1, £5 or more - we hope the Future Fund initiative can go towards ensuring the survival of Blyth Spartans and assist our new manager in building the best squad he can for next season."
Manager of Blyth Spartans Michael Nelson said: "Anything we can raise from our loyal fanbase or people who want to help a club so steeped in history, would help myself and the football club massively.
"I'm trying to build a squad that can compete in the league next season - and every little helps.
"There are fans that have dropped cheques off and tried to donate money - this initiative has been launched because fans have expressed such a desire to help us in a time of need.
"I'm hopeful we can build a very good squad that will give their all for the shirt, then the fans who donate can really feel that they've made a contribution and played a part in the history of this football club."
Chairman of Blyth Spartans Tony Platten said: "After weeks of uncertainty, the news that Blyth will not be relegated has at last been confirmed and this now allows us to put plans in place for the new season.
"The fact that supporters approached the club about additional fundraising shows the fantastic commitment of the Spartans fans.
"I am delighted that an online fundraising facility has now been established to simplify the process of fundraising and I can confirm that every penny will go towards the playing budget for the new season.
"In these testing and uncertain financial times, the club will explore every option available to ensure the survival of the club.
"We look forward to seeing all our long-standing fans back at Croft Park whenever the first home fixture might be."
