Spartans Sign Greg Pearson
Friday, 4 November 2011
Blyth Spartans have announced the loan signing of Greg Pearson from Huddersfield Town.
Pearson - who will be 19 next month - is a left-sided player, who is equally comfortable at centre back or full back. The Halifax- born defender played football for Warley Rangers, before joining Town's Academy at under-13 level.
Pearson - who stands at 6'2" - was named 'Second Year Scholar of the Year' at Huddersfield's 2011 Annual Awards Ceremony. He has captained the under-18 side this season, making 26 appearances and scoring one goal so far.
He signed his first professional contract ahead of the 2011/12 season, which will keep him at The Terriers until the summer of 2013.
Blyth's Assistant Manager Gavin Fell - who was at school with Huddersfield boss Lee Clark - said: "Greg is highly rated at Huddersfield. He's quick, tenacious and not frightened to put his feet or head in where it hurts.
"Lee has been brilliant about getting the deal sorted out and it will obviously help us - after losing central defenders Wayne Buchanan and Carl Jones to suspension and injury respectively."
The deal is initially for a month and Huddersfield have also given permission for Pearson to appear in the FA Cup.
