Head Shaving Event
Thursday, 7 March 2013
Two local young women are to undertake a hair-raising stunt for charity. Well, hair-losing actually.
Blyth Spartans supporters Shannon Haley (pictured top left) and Eleanor Imrye (pictured below right) are having their heads shaved at the Spartans' Croft Park after a forthcoming match.
18 year old Shannon said: "I thought it would be good idea to raise money for Cancer Research as my Dad is recovering from the disease. I read about some people in Australia doing something similar to raise cash so we thought we'd follow suit.
"We've already raised over the £200 we were hoping for. Our next target is £1000", she added.
Shannon, who is hoping to study Cancer Genetics at University, is a long term Spartans fan.
"I've been going to games even before I was born-when my Mum as pregnant!" she said. "So it's fitting to stage the event at the ground. We are getting a Blyth player to shave my head and hopefully a player from Ilkeston, who we are playing that day, to shave Eleanor."
Shannon's Blyth hero is Robbie Dale.
She commented: "When I was younger I was a mascot and walking on to the pitch with Robbie not only made my day-it made my month."
The shaving will take place in the Spartans' Social Club at about 5.30pm on Saturday 16th March. There will also be a tombola and disco, where Shannon and Eleanor will not exactly be letting their hair down but having a good time none the less.
