Holmes has Colliers under the Hammer in Friendly Victory

Summer signing Jamie Holmes made a massive impression on the Blyth Spartans faithful with a scintillating display against EBAC Northern League Division One side Ashington on Tuesday evening.

The former Newcastle United Academy product - who is the brother of former Spartan Dean Holmes - showed the some deft touches and mazy runs as Spartans ran out 4-0 winners at Croft Park.

The 20-year-old scored one and created another in a man-of-the-match performance which had the Croft Park crowd applauding on numerous occasions.

And the former South Shields man believes the welcoming dressing room has contributed to his early pre-season form:

"It's always difficult joining a new club, but I'm enjoying it more than I expected - a big part of that is the dressing room and how welcoming they have been."

The forward also lauded the effect of Alun Armstrong's playing style:

"Alun's style suites me perfectly, he's given me a license to express myself going forward and hopefully I showed tonight a bit of what I can do."

Holmes opened his pre-season account with a tidy finish from a Bradley Fewster through ball, but also hit the bar and forced a one-on-one save during the game.

"I should probably have had at least two this evening, but the main thing is I'm enjoying playing for Blyth and enjoying pre-season."

Holmes, along with fellow summer signing Alex Nicholson, will venture back to Mariners Park this Saturday as we travel to Evo-Stik Northern Premier League side South Shields in our next pre-season matchup.
