Interview | Clark on King's Lynn defeat
Monday, 9 December 2019
Blyth Spartans manager Lee Clark says his side didn't test National League North leaders King's Lynn Town enough during the 3-0 defeat on Saturday.
Spartans more than matched their visitors for large parts of the game, however Clark believes the Linnets defence weren't stretched enough when Blyth got into good areas.
Indeed, Clark was disappointed with the goals Blyth conceded, though now wants to look ahead to a huge festive fixture list, calling for action and not words from his squad.
"We were doing ok until an error cost us the first goal," said Clark.
"We were having the better of the game and more than matched King's Lynn. But we didn't capitalise on good situations and didn't take the initiative enough.
"We continued to be a little stand-offish through the game. I thought we played within ourselves and this meant the match went away from us.
"The three goals we conceded were the poorest ones you'd have seen at any level of football across the country on Saturday.
"Nevertheless we had some good possession in the second half too but didn't test their keeper enough - what matters is how you play in the box. It just wasn't to be.
"I don't want to say that we made a good fist of it. Against good sides we haven't been at the standard we want it to be.
"With the league games we have coming up over the next few weeks we need wins. Talk is cheap, we need to do it on the pitch."
