Interview | Harker glad to see things finally clicking
Tuesday, 20 August 2019
Nathan Harker put in a magnificent performance against Hereford but was unable to stop Blyth Spartans falling to a 1-0 defeat.
However, Harker is looking at the positives and admits the squad can 'see things clicking' as Lee Clark's men wait for their first win of the season.
After suffering four defeats in a row scoring just the one goal Harker says the mood in the dressing room 'Isn't the best' but is confident moving forward.
The on-loan Newcastle United 'keeper has made a great start to life at Croft Park proving to be a reliable player between the sticks.
Harker joined on a fourth-month loan deal after Mark Foden picked up an injury in training and the 20-year old has played every game since joining.
The young shot-stopper is enjoying life at Spartans and says the support is better than he 'thought it was going to be'.
Harker spoke after the defeat to Hereford, he said: "I think from a team perspective it's not the result we wanted but we can see things clicking together now.
"Everyone is starting to get to know each other a bit better, so moving forward performances should be better.
"Even though we went in at the break 1-0 down I thought we were the better team it was just that final product, final ball or final finish.
"If we had been able to carry that on in the second half we would've been favourites to go home with the three points."
Despite having no points on the board yet, Harker is still confident of getting that first win sooner rather than later.
He added: "The mood in the dressing room isn't great, especially after a 1-0 loss like that but everyone backs each other and every single player brings something else to the team.
"If we keep trying to do the right things nobody can blame us for that.
Talking up the support home and away from the Spartans fans, it brought a smile to Harker's face as he appreciates what they do for the team.
He said: "It's better than what I thought it was going to be, every home game and even the away game at Alfreton was a massive crowd.
"Obviously I'm still training at Newcastle and I've come into this not knowing what to expect, It's been a really good experience for me.
"All the 'Keepers at Newcastle have been really helpful and some of them have had loan spells at this level earlier in their careers and they told me not to underestimate the standard of football.
"They were right it's a great standard it's just a different style of football and they've helped me bring things here."
