Interview | McKeown on his first Spartans goal
Sunday, 27 December 2020
Blyth Spartans forward Corey McKeown described his stunning second-half equaliser against local rivals Gateshead as a "great moment".
Still only 18, McKeown netted his first senior goal in sublime fashion with a goal of the season contender to earn Blyth a 2-2 draw against The Heed.
Speaking about the goal, McKeown told blythspartans.com: "It just felt right!
"I cut inside of the defender and as soon as I hit it, I knew it was flying in.
"It was a great moment, one I've waited a long time for."
On the performance, where Blyth twice came from behind, McKeown added: "We definitely deserved our point.
"I felt we had chances to win it but we dug deep against a good Gateshead side.
"It was good to come away with something from a derby game.
"It was great work by the lads, every single one on the pitch put a shift in.
"Hard work is a big part of football and that is exactly what we did today."
Boosted by his first goal in Spartans colours, McKeown hopes it is the start of a regular place in the team.
"It's a quick turnaround to Darlington but I don't mind it," said McKeown.
"I'm just hoping for as much game time as I can. That's my main aim this season.
"Hopefully, the goal today, will help me to do that."
