Interview | Nelson knows all about Cunningham's qualities
Monday, 5 October 2020
Blyth Spartans boss Michael Nelson is fully aware of the qualities Aaron Cunningham brings to Croft Park.
Cunningham, 22, returned to Blyth for his third loan spell from Hartlepool United for the entirety of the season.
The defender has made 21 appearances across two previous loans at Spartans and will hope to add to that tally tonight at Guiseley.
And just like supporters, Nelson knows all about the attributes he carries.
Nelson told blythspartans.com: "Hopefully, when the supporters see this, it will give them a boost straight away.
"They won't have to wait and see what he's about - they already know what he's about.
"He obviously knows the club, knows some of the lads and the staff, so hopefully that will speed up his settling in period.
"Looking at him when he played against us in the pre-season game with Hartlepool compared to last season, he looks bigger and stronger.
"Hopefully that will allow him to go from strength to strength."
Cunningham appeared in Spartans' previous National League North game in March - Nelson's only outing as caretaker manager.
He added: "I only coached him for that one game at Brackley but I've seen him in other games that I've watched and before that as well.
"I've spoken to people at Blyth who have seen him play and know what he is like as a character around the place and how he fits in.
"I've spoken to people I know well at Hartlepool too and he just fits the mould of what we're trying to recruit.
"Again, he's a good player but also a good character. Hopefully, he will come in and excel. "
