Kris Thackray was over the moon as Blyth Spartans claimed their first win of the National League North at Curzon Ashton on Saturday.

Thackray played on the left of a four-man defence which defended superbly to keep a clean sheet in the 3-0 victory at the Tameside Stadium.

But he also chipped at the other end too - setting the ball rolling with a 35th-minute opener before Paul Blackett's brace capped off a fine afternoon.

He told blythspartans.com: "I was trying to get away from my man because he was trying to grab me at the other end.

"Thankfully, I got a bit of space and I couldn't miss from there really."

He continued: "We're over the moon with the win.

"We've been getting closer to it over the last few weeks and there is probably a bit in the back of your mind thinking: 'When is it actually going to come?'

"We did nearly everything today. We took our chances and then basically defended for our lives."

It's a quick turnaround for Thackray and his teammates as they welcome Farsley Celtic to Croft Park on Tuesday evening.

He added: "Like the gaffer said, we've got to take this feeling we've got now and roll on.

"We're feeling confident. We've proved we can keep a clean sheet. We've proved we can be clinical - so let's try and build some momentum."
