Interview | Tony Platten on Callum Roberts' departure

Monday, 20 January 2020

Blyth Spartans chairman Tony Platten has assured fans the funds raised from Callum Roberts' transfer to Notts County will be reinvested into the playing squad.

The former Newcastle United youngster joined the National League side for an undisclosed fee with Spartans also negotiating a sell-on percentage.

Platten said: "We were very fortunate to pick him up from Newcastle United. We saw the potential he had but there was always the risk clubs at a higher level would be after him.

"Part of the deal with Callum when he joined was that we would not stand in the way of any player wanting to go to higher up the pyramid.

"Notts County made an offer, Lee (Clark) negotiated the deal, which was acceptable to both parties. We have a sell-on clause in it too.

"We will miss his goal-scoring ability but the money we will receive will be reinvested in strengthening the playing squad in the attempt to find a new goalscorer.

"I'd like to thank Callum for what he did at Blyth Spartans and wish him all the best in his future career."
