King backs Spartans new boy to be a success

Former Blyth Spartans goalkeeper coach Carl King has given a positive reaction to the news that the club has completed the signing of Spennymoor Town goalkeeper Adam McHugh.

The pair worked together during King's time with the Moors(where they are pictured above) and he believes that Tom Wade has brought at young, hungry goalkeeper to Croft Park.

He said "I think Adam is a great signing for Blyth Spartans. They've got a young, hungry goalkeeper who still wants to make it to the top level of the game.

He's a big unit, very commanding. He's not afraid to play it out from the back, which will work well into Tom and Lee's football philosophy. Also he may be relatively young but he comes with big game experience"

And King, who had two spells at Croft Park, admitted that McHugh has been in touch to discuss the potential move to Spartans.

"I speak on a regular basis with Adam and when he told me Blyth were in for him I told him to go for it. It's a great move for him at this stage in his career. He needs to be playing as a number one and Tom has every confidence in him, so for me it was no brainer"

And King also believes that the former St Mirren and Hartlepool United stopper will be joining a club where he will flourish.

"Adam is joining a massive club, who are on their way back up to where they belong. You can see the professionalism throughout the club and it is a great move for him"

McHugh will make his Spartans debut next Tuesday night when Tom Wade's side play their opening pre-season friendly against SkyBet League Two side Carlisle United.
