Last Wednesday the first meeting of the new 'Blyth Spartans AFC Official Supporters Club' took place.

Iain Charlesworth was elected as Chairman with Dan Rolls as Vice Chairman. Nathan Tong is to take on the role of Secretary with the Treasurer's position yet to be confirmed.

Iain said: "After a period of lows at the Spartans, the relegation from Blue Square North and a period of inconsistent team management, fan numbers and enthusiasm diminished rather. The excellent decisions by the Board, in the appointment of Tom Wade as manager and Colin Myers as his number two are clearly paying off on the pitch. Couple this with the newly refurbished social club, with a new manager, and things are certainly changing for the better.

"It was apparent to myself and a group of other fans that after the success, last season, of the media team and the introduction of new initiatives that we also needed to raise our game in terms of our Supporters Club.

"The new 'BSAFC Official Supporters Club' plans to do exactly that. The immediate aim is to compile an attractive membership package and open this membership up to all fans. A refurbished club store and extended merchandise range along with the re-introduction of official supporters buses and a Junior Supporters Club section are amongst our main goals.

"Longer term, working closely with all elements of the club, we plan to further raise the profile of Blyth Spartans AFC.

"A Committee of mixed backgrounds has been formed to do our very best for both the fans and the football club. "

Other Committee members are Russell Parker, John Parker, Chris Ferguson, Michael Tilmouth, Michael Soulsby, Brian Davison, Doug Ramsey and Scott Dewhirst. More members are likely to be added in due course.

Unfortunately a health and safety issue means that the club store won't be open at tomorrow's match against King's Lynn.

"The roof has been leaking badly," said Iain. "However we will be selling merchandise in the social club and it gives fans the chance to meet some of us and discuss our ideas."
