Let’s make it a great weekend for the fans- Berj

Wednesday, 22 August 2012

After playing his part in his first ever competitive win in a Spartans shirt, midfielder Tom Berj has set his sights on making it a great Bank Holiday weekend for his team mates and Spartans fans alike. The tenacious midfielder was taken off midway through the second half after taking a blow to the top of his foot but said "I just took a knock on my foot but I'm hoping to be fit for Saturday, I'm looking forward to it and we want to get another three points to take into Monday and hopefully win at Whitby. Six points would make it a great weekend all round and would help us get up that table."

The Croft Park faithful have taken well to Berj and his attitude and hard work have endeared him to the fans and he insisted that it was great to see the whole team bounce back from Saturday's loss at Witton Albion. "It's a great feeling and we are buzzing in there, after Saturday our heads were down but we have bounced back really well and need to keep it going".

It was a case of keeping it simple and improving on the basics for Berj and his team mates according to the former Sunderland RCA man as he identified two basics of football as a reason for the sharp upturn in performance from the opening day defeat to tonight's win over the Steels. Berj commented "Our passing was a lot better, sharper and quicker, it improved a lot. Our finishing was much better and we scored some great goals with Robbie and Craig being brilliant but as individuals and as a team we were much better".

Berj will hope to be fit for Saturday and the latest team news will appear on the website from Friday afternoon.
