Maddison happy to get match time

After signing on loan for a month from Newcastle United, winger Marcus Maddison made his Spartans debut in the 1-1 draw with Nantwich Town at Croft Park. The Durham born youngster started on the left side of midfield for Paddy Atkinson's side and played a key role in Wayne Buchanan's goal as the Spartans skipper got on the end of Maddison's cross to give his side the lead.

For Maddison though it was all about getting time on the pitch as he looked ahead to a month with Spartans. He said "I thought I did ok today, it's the first full ninety minutes I have played this season so I did tire a bit towards the end but it was good to play my part and set up the goal. There's a good group of lads in there and they have made me more than welcome so I'm looking forward to playing more".

Reflecting on his move from the St James Park club Maddison wants to use the loan spell to not only help out Spartans but to benefit his own career as he looks to progress. "I was told about the interest from Spartans last week and I wanted to come to the club. I need to start playing more games, hopefully getting some goals for the club and get my confidence up. Ideally I want to go back to Newcastle United a better player for my time spent here.".

The winger is unavailable for the trip to AFC Fylde on Tuesday as he will be available for Newcastle United as their reserves face Bedlington Terriers in the quarter final of the Northumberland Senior Cup.
