Majestic Maguire makes his mark
Tuesday, 23 April 2013
Daniel Maguire capped off not only an impressive day, but an impressive season during Saturday's Presentation Evening - as he collected the two most prestigious awards on offer.
Following a Man of the Match performance - and scoring the solitary goal - in the 1-0 win over Grantham Town, Maguire was named as both the Supporters' Club's (above) and the Players' Player of the Year for 2012/13 (below.)
The 20-year-old stepped up from Northern Football Alliance Premier Division side Seaton Delaval Amateurs in September 2012 and has gone on to have a fantastic first season with the club.
Conor Grant also celebrated a clean sheet in that game by being named the Port of Blyth Player of the Year (above), while Robert Dale ensured that his set-up for the winner - his 21st of the season - further assured him as the inaugural winner of the Most Assists prize (below.)
The Blyth Spartans Media Team then got in on the act - as Press Officer Mark Carruthers presented two more new awards.
Lee Mason (above) was named as their Player of the Year, before Wayne Buchanan (below) picked up his "Media Friendliest" award - an award based on the quality and quantity of interviews given over the season.
The Chairman's award then went to "Unofficial groundsman" Peter Henderson - for his excellent work on the Croft Park pitch this year - before Joe Kendrick, Richard Slaughter and Neal Hooks were named as this season's "Best Travellers" by Doug Ramsay.
In addition to the awards presented, Quantum Elite - one of Blyth Spartans' main sponsors - kindly donated £310 to Callum's Wish to Walk charity, raised from an auction of a signed Lionel Messi shirt they had won at the Sportsman's Dinner the night before.
The club would like to thank Quantum Elite's Lissa and Brian Delf for their generousity not just to Callum, but for presenting the awards on behalf of Blyth Spartans as well.
With three games of this campaign still remaining, it was not possible to present the Top Scorer award on the night. This will now happen following the curtain-closer at Nantwich Town on Saturday, May 4.
