Mason happy to be off the mark

Spartans winger Lee Mason scored his first goal of the season as he got the first goal of four in the 4-2 win over Frickley Athletic. His thirty seventh minute effort was the former Hartlepool United man's first since scoring the winner in a 2-1 comeback win at Croft Park against Solihull Moors back in April. He said "I'm very happy and hopefully there will more to come this season. It was a shot cum cross that I've put into the right area and I'm delighted to have seen it go in." When pressed on how much fortune there was about the goal he was honest as he said "Well it was a cross but I put it in the right area and as a winger that's what you have to do"
Mason's goal was added to by a brace from Phil Airey and a first goal for the club by Ryan McGorrigan and Mason was quick to praise the former Newcastle United Academy duo for their impact on the game. "Phil is a great addition and we all know what he can do in front of goal, he has great quality and took his goals really really well. It's been a while since we have been able to see that sort of quality from the bench but hopefully there is more to come. Ryan has been doing well and plugging away in training and we have all been impressed with him. His performance today earned him that goal and I was pleased for him".
With a first win since mid-September for Spartans Mason is hopeful that his side can continue to improve as they travel to Worksop on Wednesday night before welcoming Stafford Rangers to Croft Park on Saturday. Mason said "Hopefully we can take this into Wednesday and get a win down at Worksop. It won't be easy but we have to take confidence from today".
