Mason thinks Spartans ground it out
Saturday, 8 September 2012
Spartans winger Lee Mason feels his side should be commended for their attitudes in difficult conditions in the 1-0 FA Cup win over Garforth Town today. High temperatures met the players as they walked out for kick off and it only got hotter during the game and whilst Spartans may have expected to roll over a side who are one division lower in the league pyramid but in reality had to work for their win. Mason, who came close to his first goal of the season on two separate occasions said "It was very tough, especially with the heat out there but I thought the lads dug in well and we deserved the victory. We all know Blyth Spartans have got a good history in the competition and it's something we all want to keep going this season".
However Mason insisted that whilst the players are aware of the history of the club in the competition, it wasn't really something that they had spoken about. The former Hartlepool United man said "We haven't really spoken about it, you don't really need to because it's always in the back of the players' mind anyway. There's plenty of reminders around here but now we are just looking forward to the next round and looking forward to seeing who we are going to get".
Mason and Spartans will find out who their opposition are on Monday when the draw for the Second Qualifying Round is made.
