TEAM NEWS

Blyth Spartans look to extend their winning run to 3 games as they welcome Spennymoor Town in the first of a festive double-header against The Moors.

Spartans were in action at York City on Saturday and left Bootham Crescent with all 3 points as a dominant display ended 3-2. Sean Reid slotted home the opener from the penalty spot after Robbie Dale was felled. The Minstermen equalised through their own penalty in somewhat dubious circumstances with Jon Parkin tucking home. Adam Wrightson then clipped home the second before Greg Rutherford put the Spartans 3-1 up. Jon Parkin then grabbed his second of the game in the closing stages.

Spennymoor Town were also in action as they welcomed FC United of Manchester to Brewery Field but were unable to claim all 3 points despite being in a strong position. Ryan Hall and Rob Ramshaw put the hosts ahead before Jordan Fagbola halved the deficit. Ryan Hall restored the 2 goal cushion before Glen Taylor added a 4

th

. United responded as Connor McCarthy made it 4-2 before Craig Lindfield added another in the 71

st

minute. The comeback was complete in the 75

th

minute as McCarthy grabbed his second to finish the scoring at 4-4.

Both sides know that 3 points will be massive in trying to close the gap to the teams above them. Blyth occupy 4

th

place and 3 points could take them within 1 point of Brackley Town and Spennymoor in 6

th

would go within 1 point of Blyth with a win.
