Skelmersdale United 1-4 Blyth Spartans

Blyth Spartans opened a four-point gap at the top of the Evo-Stik Premier League, with their fourth consecutive win - following a routine 4-1 victory over bottom club Skelmersdale United on Tuesday night.

Daniel Maguire opened the scoring after just five minutes, before Luke Armstrong struck just before the break to see Spartans into the break with a comfortable lead.

Ryan Hutchinson turned in a free-kick ten minutes into the second half, but the hosts were able to pull one back through Dylan Smith on 75 minutes.

However, that didn't stop a dominant Blyth side from wrapping up the win late on - as Adam Wrightson scored his first goal for the club with a delightful chip, to wrap up all three points and put Spartans further ahead of the chasing pack with games still in hand.

Alun Armstrong's side will look to extend January's winning run to five games when they travel to 16th-placed Mickleover Sports on Saturday afternoon.
