The club is delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Matty Pattison.

Johannesburg-born Matty played ten times for Newcastle United in 2006 before joining Norwich City for whom he made 51 appearances. Matty went on to play in his native South Africa before joining Gateshead in 2014. He was released by the Tynesiders at the end of last season.

29-year-old Matty, who has represented his country five times, said: "I'm very happy to sign for Blyth. It's a good set-up here and it's perfect for me. I can't wait to get started!"

Asked about what he is likely to bring to the club Matty said: "I like to think I can open things up on the pitch, be creative and put a good shift in as well. I can also score a decent amount of goals from midfield although creating them is more important from my point of view."

Matty is hoping to pursue a career in coaching alongside playing for the Spartans.

Manager Tom Wade commented: "This is a huge signing for this football club. Probably one of the biggest in a long time. Matty's played at Championship level and is vastly experienced.

"He's fast, powerful, fit and in his prime plus, being left-footed, he will bring more balance to our midfield. What's more he's a good lad. Everyone speaks very highly of him.

"I'm very grateful that the finances have been made available to bring in top-notch players like Matty. This had been made possible because of increased attendances so we have our fans, as well as the Board, to thank."
