Blyth Spartans will play a Newcastle United eleven in a re-run of a game which took place almost exactly 100 years ago.
Newcastle United beat the Spartans 4-2 in the 1909 match which was the very first to be played at Croft Park, where Blyth have played ever since.

The home club are hoping to reverse the earlier scoreline but also to raise money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and The Children's Foundation.
"We are very keen to support Sir Bobby's Foundation by donating the gate receipts" said Spartans' Chairman Tony Platten. A bucket collection will take place for the Children's Foundation.
Mr Platten continued "We are also honoured to have Lord Ridley at the game. His grandfather kicked off the game in 1909 and he will literally follow in his ancestor's footsteps when he kicks off the game on 4th August at 7.30pm"

Lord Ridley, who is a former President of the Northumberland club, hopes to continue the family tradition of supporting the club by bringing his own grandsons to the match.
He commented, "I'm absolutely delighted to be invited to kick off the game. It's fantastic what the Club has done for the town over the years. I hope a big crowd turns up for this centenary match and helps raise money for the two Foundations."
It is anticipated that Lord Ridley will donate a plaque to commemorate the occasion.

The continued development of Croft Park as a football stadium sees a new stand being opened for the game at the Kingsway end. It means that for the first time all sides of the ground have covered accommodation.

The Spartans are looking for a sponsor for the Newcastle game.
