Blyth Spartans AFC is delighted to announce Rhys Evans has signed a new contract, keeping him at Croft Park for the 2021/22 season.

The pacey right-back joined from Newcastle Benfield in June 2019 and has established himself as a popular figure among the club's fanbase.

Despite seeing both of his two seasons in Northumberland cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Evans has made an impressive 49 appearances.

The 24-year-old was a regular under Michael Nelson last season. His commitment comes as a big boost to the club.

Michael Nelson, manager of Blyth Spartans said: "Rhys has a great attitude and work ethic.

"We feel he is someone who will continue to develop and get better. I'm extremely pleased he is staying with us."

Evans added: "I'm delighted. As soon as last season got made null and void, the first thing on my mind was staying next year.

"I didn't think about going anywhere else, I just want to be here and hopefully have a successful season."
