Blyth Spartans are delighted to announce that our Fans Player of the Year Toby Lees, and Young Player of the Year Corey McKeown have extended their stays at the club for another season.
McKeown joined Spartans as a 17-year-old in November 2019 and has made 39 appearances for the club with one goal - a stunning equaliser in a 2-2 draw with Gateshead in December 2020. The youngster has established himself as a key part of Terry Mitchell's team towards the end of the campaign.
Lees arrived last summer and was a mainstay of the Spartans defence, making 48 appearances and scoring two goals, with his consistency making him a favourite amongst the Blyth support.
Speaking about his new deal, the former Harrogate man said, "I'm delighted to get everything sorted and sign. I'm looking forward to the new season ahead and playing in front of the Blyth Spartans fans again."
With McKeown adding, "It's a pleasure to be here. Really looking forward to the upcoming season, I love being part of this club so can't wait for us to get in and get started."
Spartans boss Mitchell, was thrilled to see both players commit their futures to the club. "Toby was virtually an ever-present, never injured, dead durable. He's great lad on and off the pitch in everything he does. Living in Harrogate and travelling that far and to be so committed to want to play for Blyth is testament to him and I'm delighted he's staying for another year.
Corey's an exciting player, he picks the ball up and wants to run at defences. He's got great trickery. We're looking to develop his game even further to add more goals and assists. Hopefully it'll be a big year for him, and we're really looking forward to working with him again next season."
