Nolan happy to sicken Steels with late strike

After finding the perfect moment to net his first competitive Spartans goal, striker Rob Nolan admitted that he didn't think he would find himself in the position to do so after being ill most of last night. The former North Shields front man grabbed a late equaliser to ensure Spartans took a much deserved point from Stocksbridge Park Steels and carried on their unbeaten start to the season and Nolan revealed it was a "relief" to get off the mark.

"I'm really happy with the goal and to be honest I didn't think I would get on. I was feeling really ill before the match and didn't sleep well last night but got on and it was a relief to get on and grab the goal"

During pre-season Nolan proved on several occasions that he is a deadly finish when give a chance one on one with the opposing goalkeeper. That's why it was a surprise to see him narrowly miss a chance on Saturday during the 3-3 draw with Worksop Town but he made up for that with a neat finish to get Spartans back on even terms. With Matlock Town visiting Croft Park this coming Saturday the striker admitted he wanted to see his side carry on their unbeaten run in front of the Green Army.

"I hope I made amends for the miss on Saturday and it's great that we are still unbeaten. I was happy to get the goal and I don't think many thought we were going to be unbeaten so we are really looking forward to Matlock Town on Saturday and hopefully with our supporters behind us we can carry on our good form"
